Garden Detective Files preserve the mysteries that were followed far enough for the evidence to reveal a story.

Follow the Clues

Each file retraces the investigation from its first question to its resolution:

• What was first observed

• Where and when the evidence appeared

• The original photographs and field notes

• Early possibilities and mistaken guesses

• The clues that changed our understanding

• The final identification or best-supported explanation

• What the mystery taught us about the garden

• Related plants, creatures, stories, and open questions

 

The answer is not separated from the path that led to it. A name alone cannot show how uncertainty became curiosity, or how curiosity became understanding.

The Garden After the Answer

 

Solving a mystery does not close the garden.

​

Often, an answer creates better questions.

 

A molt tells us that someone grew here.

An egg mass reveals an unseen relationship.

A damaged leaf points toward an insect that had been living nearby all along.

The completed file becomes part of the Garden Archive, while any new unanswered thread returns to the Mystery Cabinet.

Visitors may arrive looking for an identification. We hope they leave looking for a tiny life.
