Before a butterfly arrives, something must be growing for it.

Before a bird finds shelter, a branch must reach outward.

Before a bee disappears into a bloom, the flower must open.

Before a seed pod crackles in the summer heat, a whole season of roots, rain, sun, and unseen work has already taken place.

The Plant Library is a living record of the flowers, herbs, shrubs, vines, trees, vegetables, and volunteer plants that shape this garden. Each plant is known not only by its name, but by the community that gathers around it.

Here, identification is only the beginning.

Inside Each Plant Portrait

A plant page may include its botanical and familiar names, where it grows in the garden, when it blooms, how it changes through the seasons, and what conditions help it thrive.

​

It may also record:

• The pollinators, birds, and other neighbors who visit it

• The fragrance it carries and when that fragrance is strongest

• The textures, colors, seed pods, and forms someone might notice

• Stories, field notes, mysteries, and photographs connected to it

• Herbarium specimens gathered after the plant has offered them

• Paintings, patterns, or artwork it later inspired

 

This is growing information held inside relationship.  A Rose of Sharon is not only a list of requirements. It is also the place where a massive web once stretched toward the Firecracker bush, where tiny hunters waited among the petals, and where new stories continued to appear.

A Library That Keeps Growing

No plant page is ever entirely finished.

Another season may reveal a new visitor.

A familiar bloom may carry an unfamiliar scent after rain.

A seedling may appear where no one remembers planting it.
