Lenten Rose
Lenten Rose
Helleborus × hybridus
Plant portrait: Nodding flowers open in late winter and early spring, when the rest of the garden is still deciding whether to wake.
Garden rhythm: Evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial; shade to part shade, rich well-drained soil, moderate moisture. Removing old, dying leaves prior to winter, will help new flowers emerge for the winter and spring blooms.
Garden companions: Early flowers can support emerging pollinators.
Worth noticing: All parts are toxic if eaten and sap may irritate skin; handle with gloves.
