Wisteria 'Burford' (Japanese Wisteria)

Plant portrait: Cascading clusters of violet, lilac-blue, and deep purple pea-like flowers carried by a powerful woody vine. Velvet soft and long bean pods develop, after the flowers. Leaves are a beautiful bright green which change into a lovely bronze to golden yellow once fall arrives.

Garden rhythm: Deciduous vine; usually spring bloom, full sun for best flowering, sturdy support.

Garden companions: Flowers can serve bees.

Worth noticing: Species matters greatly. Chinese and Japanese wisterias can be invasive and structurally aggressive; American wisteria is better behaved. All parts are toxic if eaten.
